It is with a very heavy heart that the Chalmers Street Public School community mourns the loss of Channon Playter, our staff member and the mother of two students at Chalmers Street PS, who passed away on January 22, 2023. Channon joined Chalmers Street Public School this year as a supply Supervision Monitor and a coverage Teacher and Developmental Early Childhood Educator.  

Channon was a wonderful addition to our staff. She entered the building with a smile and an extra skip in her step. Her positivity was contagious, putting a smile on the faces of staff and students alike. She was open, caring and dedicated to supporting the Chalmers Community. Her love for her children and other children within the community was evident.

Our thoughts are with the Playter and Goncalves families.

Members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team have been consulted to support our students and staff.

In honour of Channon the flags at Chalmers Street Public School and the Waterloo Region District School Board will be flown at half mast this week.
